Information

Collagen is the most abundant structural protein in the human body, it plays a key role in support, resistance, elasticity, structural integrity of tissues and cell vitality. Do you know the main collagen types? ‍ That's why we call it the Protein Of Life! It is found throughout our whole body and there are several types of collagen. Approximately 28 types have already been reported in the literature, calling it the collagen family, and they differ from each other by molecular structure and organization. Although different tissues may have the same types of collagen, the predominance of aspecific type influences the structural characteristics of each organ or tissue (such as firmness, elasticity, flexibility and mechanical strength). ‍ Learn more about the three main collagen families here: ‍ - Collagen Type I It is the most abundant type of collagen in the human body and comes in the form of long and thick fibers. It is the most resistant to mechanical tension in the entire family and, therefore, is present in tissues that need alot of resistance, such as skin, tendons and bones. ‍ - Collagen Type II It appears as smaller, thinner fibers and is associated with other extracellular matrix proteins, binding strongly to water, for example. It has astrong ability to absorb impact, and for this reason it is one of the main constituents of joint cartilage. ‍ - Collagen type III It appears as delicate and fine fibers that are normally found in tissues that have a certain degree of elasticity, such as arteries, skin, intestines, uterus, fascia, and ligaments. In all its forms, collagen is a crucial protein for the health and proper functioning of the human body. ‍
